A Christmas portfolio: Dutch "Oliebollen"

At the crack of dawn, establishments like this one on Amsterdam's Museumplein start baking fresh Oliebollen and other Dutch Christmas seasonal treats. Although they look like street theaters, their fragrance is a hint of delights to come once they open up, for the occasional unsuspecting tourists and for locals and commuters in the know.

A Christmas market is being set up on the famous Leidseplein, with a skating rink and again Oliebollen! Tourists flock to the square and take hundreds of pictures.

So here they are, in this classic still life: Oliebollen with raisins. Of course you can also get plain ones and lots of other varieties...
Sprinkle with plenty of powdered sugar, if you like, and enjoy. One word of warning: they are quite rich!

Nevertheless they are hugely popular and loved by everyone.

Happy Holidays!
